To earn a spot on our list, desserts needed a suitably festive flourish, whether presented as a snowy scene, wreath or star shape. And to ease the strain on our bank balance this year, these taste-approved treats start from just £5.
Looking for a more traditional end to your meal? We’ve also lent our expertise to finding the perfect panettone, Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings and stollen, so you’re sure to find something that the whole family will enjoy.
How we test Christmas desserts
The GHI tested 13 Christmas dessert centrepieces from all the major supermarkets and independent brands. To avoid brand bias, all were tasted blind and fully evaluated on their flavour and presentation.

Runner-up Christmas dessert
Tesco Finest Orange & Mascarpone Highwall Cheesecake 560g
Score: 84/100
Our runner-up dessert is not your average cheesecake. Tesco has combined sweet orange with creamy mascarpone and encased it within a wall of ginger biscuit, finished with a scattering of orange glitter (which catches the light beautifully). Not too heavy or too sweet, it’s exactly what you’d want after a turkey and all the trimmings.

For this year’s show-stopping dessert, Waitrose has taken inspiration from the classic yule log, giving it a glow-up with blonde chocolate mousse, salted caramel and caramelised biscuit. It’s finished with an eye-catching golden shimmer and comes with a sachet to make your own caramel bark topping. Decadent, yes, but light enough that everyone will find room for a slice.
